Subject: Comment on Roger's performance at PNC Arts center in Holmdel NJ Date: 7 Aug 99 05:50:13 PDT From: "Joe L." To: cpforbes@cisunix.unh.edu Roger and co. did a great job. First my criticisms.. I liked Roger's singing, though he doesn't hit every not like he used to. I also felt an initial shock/feeling of loss that obviously it isn't Gilmour singing many of the songs, but instead Roger's bandmates. They are capable, but it honestly doesn't sound as good as many Floyd songs. The guitars sounded very good. Many of the songs that have those great guitar licks sounded excellent... Comfortably Numb's guitar solo for instance. Very capable. Roger's solo work was probably done the best. I mean, that is the one area where the band is really in their element. Amused to Death and Every Stranger's eyes were great. I suppose it boils down to your expectations... if you expect to see the True Floyd Sound from the days of Echoes, you won't see that. If you go expecting to see Roger Waters with some Floyd tossed in; then you will be satisfied. One thing Roger said was, "In the old days we had a certain magic. You have brought a little of that magic here tonight." The crowd seemed to really be having a good time, and that is what counts. One interesting thing that really got me into it, was that at PNC there is a road behind the concert venue... The song that was playing was "dogs" and that was just being done very well by Roger. A police car drove around on that road, shining his spotlight on the crowd. Ambulences flashed their lights in the distance. It just was very eerie to hear dogs and then see the police cars racing around shinging lights in people's faces... ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.
