"Dybbuk" to be released in late 1998

excerpt from http://www.memes.com/~tristandcw/sb/index.html

An Israeli feature-length film, The Dybbuk of the Holy Apple Field, includes a new recording by Roger Waters: a cover version of "Knockin' On Heaven's Door."

The rest of the film's music is supplied by Rick Wentworth, who has provided music for a number of films and television features, including the film How To Get Ahead In Advertising and the television series Cracker.

Dybbuk is not the only association between Waters and Wentworth. The two are collaborating on Waters' opera, Ça Ira, which is to be recorded this year.

The Dybbuk of the Holy Apple Field is in the Hebrew language, but offers English subtitles. Running 93 minutes in length, the film was directed by Yossi Somer, and stars Ayelet Z'urer and Yehezkel Lazarov. The film also features Moshe Ivgi, Orna Porat and Igal Naor. The film was shown at the 48th Berlin International Film Festival last February, and was also shown at the Haifa Film Festival.

Because the film is in the Hebrew language, the film may be hard to find beyond Israel or large Hebrew-speaking communities. However, it will likely be released to video where it may eventually be found in the "Imports" section of some video rental shops.

The soundtrack is planned for release in the fall or winter of 1998, according to Condor Films. The movie will be launched in the fall in Israel, and later in the US. It will be released in Europe last. Exact dates for the release are not fixed at this time, says Condor Films. All evidence suggests that the cover of "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" is Waters' sole contribution to the soundtrack. The Steel Breeze will publish any updates about the availablity of the film and its soundtrack.

A trailer for the film which includes a bit of Waters' song near the end can be found at http://www.mediaweb-tv.com The clip is in RealVideo. Slower connections should expect poor quality.
